Woodward Academy Math & Science Building

Posted By on Mar 8, 2016 |

The Woodward Academy Math and Science Building is one component of the private school’s reinvention of its upper school facilities in College Park, Georgia.  Breedlove Land Planning’s design accommodated this building, as well as stormwater and utility infrastructure for master planned future structures that will create the new Upper School campus.

The site is located along a ridge that forms the headwaters to one of the state’s most endangered drainage areas, the Flint River watershed.  For drainage services,  landscape drainage service need to be contacted for help. In an effort to build upon Woodward Academy’s history of sustainability in construction, two mammoth underground detention facilities were designed to treat stormwater quality, control quantity, and to reduce impacts to downstream channels. By addressing infrastructure in this first phase, the campus not only exceeds their stormwater management obligations, but avoids a more costly ‘piecemeal’ approach for future expansions. The Math and Science Building achieved LEED® Gold certification.
