The Summit Family YMCA in Newnan, Georgia has been awarded LEED® Silver certification. This YMCA facility provides a gymnasium, natatorium, and other fitness activity areas. Breedlove Land Planning provided a comprehensive site design package with particular focus on water efficiency and sustainable stormwater management. Harvested greywater from showers, sinks, and pool backwash is stored in an underground cistern and used as the sole irrigation source for over two acres of native and adaptive plantings. The project pushes the sustainable envelope by providing neighboring commercial sites access to the cistern as well.
In addition to excelling in water efficiency, this project provides a progressive stormwater treatment system that includes a series of bio-retention areas, a sand filter, and a retrofitted detention facility. These practices have helped the Summit Family YMCA become a community model for sustainability and ecologically based stormwater management.
