LEED® PROJECTS

Breedlove Land Planning has provided landscape architecture and civil engineering services for over twenty United States Green Building Council LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified or LEED pending projects.  Some project examples include the following:

Mount Vernon Presbyterian School – City of Sandy Springs
Completed 2007 – LEED Certified

This brand new 24 acre campus in the City of Sandy Springs is LEED Certified  Breedlove Land Planning provided the Civil Engineering services necessary to achieve LEED Certification including the site’s grading, drainage, stormwater management, traffic circulation and utility design.

Summit Family YMCA – Coweta County
Completed 2008 – LEED Gold certified

Breedlove Land Planning was hired to provide a comprehensive site design package that included hardscape design, stormwater management, and landscape design. Of particular importance is the collection of the natatorium backflush grey water into an outdoor cistern that provides 100% of the site’s irrigation needs without using any potable domestic water.

Decatur Fire Station #2 – City of Decatur
Completed 2009 – LEED Silver certification targeted

This potential LEED Silver project is located in the Oakhurst neighborhood of the City of Decatur.  This new fire station incorporates a perforated underground detention pond and oil/grit separators to treat water quantity and quality which will improve the health of waterways downstream.

The Paideia School Junior High – City of Atlanta
Completed 2008 – LEED Gold certified

This private school project is located along the Olmsted Linear Park on Ponce de Leon Avenue in Atlanta, Georgia.  The new Junior High School and Gymnasium expansion site design meets LEED Silver criteria through the removal of impervious area, and the creation of new open space.

Arabia Mountain High School – Dekalb County
Completed 2008 – LEED Gold certification targeted

This High School facility will be the first LEED certified public high school in the State of Georgia.  The school site design includes the creation of acres of native prairie in areas of construction disturbance, a wet pond to remove water pollutants, and protect downstream channels.

Athens Fire Station #9 – Athens-Clarke County
Completed 2007 – LEED Silver certified

The recently completed Athens Fire Station #9 is currently under review for LEED Silver Certification.  This project successfully treats stormwater quantity and quality to LEED Standards, promotes the conservation of open space and incorporates a drought tolerant plant palette to eliminate the need for irrigation.

Woodward Academy Math and Science Building – City of College Park
Completed 2008 – LEED Gold certified

The Woodward Academy Math and Science Building is located on the main campus of one of the most prestigious private schools in the region.  Breedlove Land Planning designed the site to not only accommodate the new building, but help two future buildings achieve LEED certification as well.

Springdale Park Elementary School – City of Atlanta
Completed 2009 – LEED Silver certification targeted

As one of the first Atlanta Public Schools to attempt LEED Silver certification, Springdale Park Elementary School blends environmental and cultural concerns in one cohesive design.  The school is located in the Druid Hills neighborhood of Atlanta and lies adjacent to Springdale Park, originally designed by Fredrick Law Olmsted, the “Father” of the profession of Landscape Architecture.

Coretta Scott King Academy – City of Atlanta
Construction Phase – LEED Silver certification targeted

This modern day Women’s Academy for Atlanta Public Schools will work to educate a new generation of women within the context of sustainability.  The site program includes the reduction of potable water through the use of highly efficient irrigation systems, a proposed planting palette that embraces native trees, shrubs and groundcovers to withstand drought effectively. Walton Department of Natural Resources Office Building – Walton County
Completed 2006 – LEED Gold certified

Breedlove Land Planning developed a sustainable site program that met credits to obtain a LEED Gold certification.  Storm water management elements include a pervious parking lot and four bioretention cells.  The design also preserved a great deal of open space and wildlife habitat.
