Graves Park is a 70-acre Gwinnett County Park providing passive recreation opportunities for residents in the Norcross, Georgia area. The site was owned by the Graves family for years and remained a mostly wooded residential island surrounded by industrial and multi-family properties. Breedlove Land Planning’s design protected environmentally sensitive areas, which include two streams, archeologically significant Native American soapstone harvesting areas, and pocket wetlands. The creation of a lake provided a stormwater management and irrigation reservoir for the park. Gently rolling open turf zones were created to accommodate free play such as frisbee, kite flying, and pick-up sports.
The design also included a playground, tennis courts, a sand volleyball court, a three-acre dog park and an extensive multi-purpose trail. The focal point of the park is an axis that terminates in a future multi-level plaza that will function as a greeting and seating area overlooking the open turf area.
