The Fulton County Schools’ Artificial Turf Fields project involved retro-fitting eight natural turf high school football/soccer fields to artificial turf. The decision of natural vs. artificial turf is an issue facing many school systems throughout the country. Breedlove Land Planning has expertise in the design of both types of fields, and feels that careful consideration of the clients’ specific goals and constraints is necessary to determine which approach is most suitable. It was determined that artificial turf was a better fit for the athletic departments and maintenance programs. Breedlove Land Planning created construction document packages for the eight high school stadiums, along with demolition, utility, and stormwater infrastructure components.
Extensive research and interviews with synthetic turf companies, school representatives, and maintenance staff enabled Breedlove Land Planning to develop a specification that has become part of the county-wide Educational Specification.
