Breedlove Land Planning was retained by the City of Douglasville to perform a site analysis/feasibility study and develop a comprehensive Master Plan for a 119-acre tract of land that was under option to purchase. The goal was to determine if the site was suitable for current and long range recreational needs.
The park site presented many developmental challenges with its severe topography, bisecting streams, and surrounding residential areas. The program included seven youth baseball fields, an accessible field for those with special needs, three youth softball fields, two adult softball fields, walking trails, playgrounds, and passive use open space.
Breedlove Land Planning developed a design solution that met the program while maximizing recreational uses. Emphasis was placed on preserving and protecting the riparian corridors while utilizing them for low impact passive use, and as a connecting thread across the park.
