The Student Success Center at Georgia Perimeter College’s Decatur Campus provides administration for student career counseling and additional classroom space for the rapidly growing campus. Breedlove Land Planning provided landscape architectural and civil engineering services for this two-phased project. The Phase I portion of this project included mass grading, utility and stormwater infrastructure, and the building pad for the new Student Success Center. Phase II added new re-configured existing parking lots for more efficient and safer traffic circulation.
Although this project did not pursue LEED® certification, numerous sustainable site elements were incorporated throughout the design. Most noticeable are four bio-retention areas flanking the building on three sides. These bio-retention areas filter and treat stormwater pollutants through natural processes. The use of native species provides drought tolerance and low maintenance, which are key elements of sustainability.
