The Creek View Elementary School construction site is a demonstration project for state-of-practice erosion prevention and sediment control measures. Breedlove Land Planning worked in conjunction with Fulton County School Board, Dirt II Committee, Beers Construction, VECO, Surface Mining Institute, and Georgia Institute of Technology on this project, which was designed and constructed to illustrate cutting-edge erosion and sedimentation control systems in a demanding, full-scale, real-world situation.
Passive de-watering sediment basins, seep berms, sand filters, coir logs, and silt fences are some major components of the design. The erosion, sedimentation, and pollution control costs to the project represented 5.8% of total sitework construction, just slightly more than traditional costs. Water-quality sampling and post-project evaluation have determined that the water quality control measures used on the site performed effectively and were cost efficient.
